One Little Word: Unstuck

UNSTUCK collage

This year I've chosen a "one little word" --like a mantra-- to repeat, as a goal for 2013.

My word is unstuck.

The idea of a One Little Word comes from scrapbooker Ali Edwards. She says
A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow.

Can you identify a single word that sums up what you want for yourself...?

It can be something tangible or intangible. It could be a thought or a feeling or an emotion. It can be singular or plural. The key is to find something that has personal meaning for you. This is not your mother’s word or your spouse’s word or your child’s word – this is YOUR word.

One little word can have big meaning in your life if you allow yourself to be open to the possibilities.

quote from this talk

When I first heard of the concept of One Little Word, I liked the idea. In December, when more talk of choosing your word started, I began thinking of what word I could choose. Unstuck came to me one day, and it just stuck. I thought of several other options for OLW: authentic, passion, exciting, focus, celebration, document, proactive, artist, create, enjoy, flourish, flow, immersion, learn, less, moments, momentum, practice, soul, teach, today, trust...

But they all came back to unstuck. They say it's powerful to repeat a word or phrase over and over, especially if it helps guide you to where you want to go. For me this is about getting over hurdles that hold me back, identifying procrastination, and just listening to myself.

Project Life: About Me & my One Little Word

I made a digital layout that will be the first spread in my Project Life album. The left page is an About Me page with basic current facts, my goals for January, a list of "Things I Like" and a couple of photos. I've seen a lot of other people do a self portrait as one of the first photos in their Project Life album for the year, and I think that's a perfect idea.

The right page is all about my one little word.

I bought myself a custom made ring with the word UNSTUCK stamped into it. It is beautiful! It was made by etsy seller Chris Mode.

...hands are weird :S

Here's to 2013 and being unstuck!

Words by others I like:
  • Elise | brave
  • Kristin | write
  • Jenn | soften
  • Amy | brave

The collage at the top I made with mixed papers, greeting cards, and Sharpies. It totally reminds me of the collages I used to make as a kid, and I love it. It's mounted on tagboard and now hanging in an 8x10 frame on my wall.

    1. I love the OLW ring! I think at the end of the year, if I keep up with the OLW class, I'm going to award myself with a ring or necklace or something with my word on it. :)

Comments are delightful - thanks for taking the time to write!
